The Work for Dummies

The Fourth Way for the rest of us.

I've begun to focus more on the Sufi tradition to make up the spiritual side of my work. It obviously ties into the Fourth Way well. Sufism gives me a way to seeing the world and my life including it's spiritual elements, while the Fourth Way gives me clear, simple and practical exercises.

The Sufis focus on love and one's relationship to the Beloved/God/Reality. It also ties into my personal life as my relationship to my wife has been the most powerful and direct spiritual experience of my life: her love for me is the sacrament of God's love, the visible sign of invisible grace. It also helps that the Sufi's work in regular day-to-day life, not having a monastic tradition. At heart, the Sufi's are also very practical, always asking: "What are you doing?"

And the heart is the main point for Sufism. Plus, it helps establish an "outward" focus, reminding me that I (whatever I is onstage at the time) isn't all there is to reality.

Sounds great, William. I've been attracted to Sufism for many years and find it a gentle path. It seems to me most people miss the spiritual side of the Fourth Way. So, it stands to reason that something that will help them find its heart is a good step.
