The Work for Dummies

The Fourth Way for the rest of us.

Here the story:

I recently had to throttle back some downloads so my son could play WOW without too much latency (from my LAN) and lag (from my downloads) occurring in his gaming session. With irritability he advised me of his stats: latency, frame rate etc, followed by a request to throttle 'at least some of the activity on the LAN.'

Now for the loose associative part:

I listen to the podcast "Jame World Phat" on the way to work each day, and the morning of the the above incident was no exception. In the pod cast James had spoken about self observation and the importance of taking a picture of ourselves as the day wore on.(I think)

Now for the epiphany -- of sorts:

It struck me as I sat there killing activity on the LAN (so the boy could play WOW?) what James had said. My subsequent reduction of activity on the LAN quickly made a significant difference in my sons' frame rate... and... Almost by magic the stuttering pictures coming across his screen became a fluid video.

Sooooooo....

From the point of view of the machine the boy was using, the occasional pictures forming on the screen could resolve into a full motion video only at about 22 to 24 frames per second ( my WAG) which could then be projected to the screen to be viewed -- and then acted upon in some semblence of real time.

Then I thought:

My God, how many pictures per day do I take? What is my frame rate per second, per minute, per day? How difficult would it be to get any kind of video of myself. How important self observation is.

Wow! That's a great thought. Or wait, is that more of an emotional response? Is this a moment of self-remembering?
