The Work for Dummies

The Fourth Way for the rest of us.

As I ride down the road on my bicycle and walk around the supermarket listening to these voices from the past transmitted from a distant land using electrons and a machine that didn't exist a decade ago that sits in my pocket and magnets perched in my ears, oblivious to 'reality' ... I wonder .. who you are .... voices that come in to my world, I wonder as I listen ... right now .. where are you, who are you ... are still there?

Many of the recorded voices you hear on the podcasts are still in the group. Some have moved on to other things. They're going about their lives in a waking sleep most of the time. Every so often someone wakes up a little and it starts a kind of chain reaction in the group, at least at the time we're together. Beyond that it's hard to say. I can assure you that I don't exist. Not in any meaningful way anyway. Especially apart from the esoteric ideas I attempt to put into practice. It can be strange to hear the voice of someone who is no longer in the group. All those different I's use the same voice, face, body, etc. It can make things confusing if we allow our awareness to drift even for a moment. Sleep is dangerous. One never knows when one might awaken a little again.

I woke after a 15 year period of slumber, shocked by what I had done with my body. And I saw it all in an instant, all those years. Yes it is dangerous, especially when we don't see that we are doing it, it is like sliding into a warm bath, comforting, familiar. But we don't see it coming, we think we are making a choice, and we are. Easier not to work, we think.

Those are interesting questions; ones I've asked myself too. I wonder about who i'm listening to cough, laugh, and what the room they're sitting in is like. If i'm missing out on some really captivating power point presentations...I'll just start making my own to help engage the rest of my sin ses. The most interesting question seems to be about space. Space between the group and I physically/mentally. Then I have one more question, one all these little ones fit into.

To what degree does 'morphic resonance' affect the members of this ning, solid rock casts, and the correspondences between other members and myself. Rupert Sheldrake speaks on something related:

"Morphogenetic fields are not fixed forever, but evolve. The fields of Afghan hounds and poodles have become different from those of their common ancestors, wolves. How are these fields inherited? I propose that that they are transmitted from past members of the species through a kind of non-local resonance, called morphic resonance.

The fields organizing the activity of the nervous system are likewise inherited through morphic resonance, conveying a collective, instinctive memory. Each individual both draws upon and contributes to the collective memory of the species. This means that new patterns of behaviour can spread more rapidly than would otherwise be possible. For example, if rats of a particular breed learn a new trick in Harvard, then rats of that breed should be able to learn the same trick faster all over the world, say in Edinburgh and Melbourne. There is already evidence from laboratory experiments that this actually happens.

The resonance of a brain with its own past states also helps to explain the memories of individual animals and humans. There is no need for all memories to be “stored” inside the brain.

Social groups are likewise organized by fields, as in schools of fish and flocks of birds. Human societies have memories that are transmitted through the culture of the group, and are most explicitly communicated through the ritual re-enactment of a founding story or myth, as in the Jewish Passover celebration, the Christian Holy Communion and the American thanksgiving dinner, through which the past become present through a kind of resonance with those who have performed the same rituals before.'

Then you have BlueTits-

"The best documented of these is the behavior of bluetits, a rather small bird with a blue head, that is common throughout Britain. Fresh milk is still delivered to the door each morning in Britain. Until about the 1950s, the caps on the milk bottles were made of cardboard. In 1921 in Southampton, a strange phenomenon was observed. When people came out in the morning to get their milk bottles, they found little shreds of cardboard all around the bottom of the bottle, and the cream from the top of the bottle had disappeared. Close observation revealed that this was being done by bluetits, who sat on top of the bottle, pulled off the cardboard with their beaks, and then drank the cream. Several tragic cases were found in which bluetits were discovered drowned head first in the milk!

This incident caused considerable interest; then the event turned up somewhere else in Britain, about 50 miles away, and then somewhere about 100 miles away. Whenever the bluetit phenomenon turned up, it started spreading locally, presumably by imitation. However, bluetits are very home-loving creatures, and they don't normally travel more than four or five miles. Therefore, the dissemination of the behavior over large distances could only be accounted for in terms of an independent discovery of the habit. The bluetit habit was mapped throughout Britain until 1947, by which time it had become more or less universal."

When James mentioned one person only being as well off as the rest of us, I questioned how that could be verified...BLUETITS!

Those are interesting wonderings. The fact that we love our imagination more than we love the truth (reality) may be the reason we don't ask. If we ask we find out and if we find out it's more difficult to indulge in imagination. Sacrificing imagination is generally too much to ask of ourselves or of another. The word sacrifice has become a point of disagreement for some. The premise is no sacrifice is necessary and I quite agree but hardly for the same reason. Some folks agree when they hold the same point of view. It's easier to agree when we hold no point of view. Intelligence is flexible.

Of course I could easily answer the wonderings by describing the room to you or even posting photos of the room but where is the Work in that? We've had some powerpoint presentations but I hope they weren't captivating because captivating is not productive in a Work sense. It's much better for us to direct our attention rather than have it captured from outside. Only, of course, if we wish to awaken. If not, then your time and money is better spent at the cinema or a concert or on the purchase of a good escape novel. Better yet, save your money and borrow the book from your local library.

Yes, the most interesting question is about space. It's not really space between the group as much as the space of the group. The collective internal spaciousness of the people in the room generates a space for the whole room. Somewhere along the line I developed the habit of looking into people's eyes. You might be amazed at how much can be transmitted through the eyes alone. Because we are connected by the space it is the space that transmits. What does the space transmit? Why, space, of course. The space in which we are enabled to live our lives. The space in which we are enabled to see things hitherto unseen by us. Yes, it is the invisible space that is most important. The words convey little of the space but it's better than nothing. Wait, isn't space nothing? No! Space is everything and what occupies the space is the true nothing because when what occupies the space has returned to it's source the space is eternally present. It's the reason I can assure you that I don't exist. The only thing that is of value is the eternal space in which It does the things It does. If It is made more passive more value from space (essence) is manifested. Space is the essential no-thing.

One more seemingly unrelated bit. I questioned how that could be verified...BLUETITS! Verification is wonderful and important but we mustn't allow ourselves to be confined too much by it. There is a need for Faith and by that I do not mean the faith of men numbers one, two or three. As there is a higher, more real Love than the love of men numbers one, two and three there is also a higher and more real Faith. The problem with words at our level is not the words but our level. When someone awakens and tries to share the experience with others who are not currently awake they can only understand to the degree they have already awakened. Beyond that they can surmise based on their experience of being awake, even for a few moments, and they can be aided in that by the scaffolding of the idea of scale. All wonderful tools to assist us with our Aim but not the same as awakening. Yet, if we are sincere, genuine and lightly diligent we make our captor a little more passive so we are liberated, even for a few moments, to enter the space that is eternally present. The fear of release is great but it's really nothing about which to worry because we can return to our prison anytime. It's just a thought away.
